Pre-Thanksgiving II

I read my last post that had so much hope for growing grass, vines, etc.  Well, Mother Nature didn't think much of that idea.  We planted grass around the house which started to grow but the lack of water and very hungry trespassing cows took care of anything that did grow.  We are starting to get some growth now and we planted cereal rye grass for the winter so all the dirt wouldn't wash away.  Only 3 of our coral honeysuckle vines survived (out of 8) on our trellis that hides the solar panels.

Now getting ready for another 24 people for Thanksgiving.  At least this year we have our backup generator in place so there will be no lack of power!

Last weekend was "critter" weekend.  As we drove up the drive in the dark Saturday night we spotted "Pepe Le Peuw" and his significant other.  Needless to say the dogs got leashed before getting out of the car and were not allowed to roam before bed.  On our way back to Houston, in the dark again, Sunday night we drove up on a 10pt. buck lounging by the side of the road who tried to out run us.  Then an owl or hawk decided to fly across the road right in front of the car - his wing brushed the windshield and made me duck while driving!

Never a dull moment in the country...
